Our Guest of Honor

Fleace Weaver
Founder

Black Girl Travel
(www.blackgirltravel.com)

FLEACE WEAVER
is the founder of BlackGirlTravel.com, a hugely successful travel club for fun loving travelers.

As a child, Fleace dreamt of traveling to foreign lands. She was nicknamed "Road Runner" because she was never afraid to leave the security of her home to pursue an adventure. In 1999 she founded Blackweekly.com, a regional social website that services over 23,000 members in the greater Los Angeles area. In 2006 she returned to her childhood passion and organized "Bella Italia" a whirlwind tour of Northern Italy and then Black Girl Travel in 2006, following the resounding success of her tours

Fleace explains a little, the concept of her business: "At BlackGirlTravel.com we create extraordinary travel for extraordinary women. Our goal is simple... exposing Black women to the beauty of the world and the world to the beauty of Black women. We create unique customized tours and meeting programs for groups and individuals."

The heart of her success: Fleace's tours are designed for "young at heart" well-heeled urbanites interested in exploring new lands while indulging in local culture, international cuisine, retail therapy, and exciting nightlife. There simply is no such thing as a 'regular' tour at BlackGirkTravel. Fleace doesn't take existing tours by other companies and copy them! She begins the planning of each tour from scratch with pen, paper, maps, and a vision to maximize the time spent in each country. With her creative flair and "can do" attitude, Fleace has earned a reputation for designing unique travel experiences with the special needs and desires of the fun-loving anad progressive. For the seasoned traveller looking for something different or a newbie seeking the security of a group, she is famous for designing a tour just for them!

Her motto: "These are not your grandmother's tours."

Fleace will share fun memories and experiences she has had building her business.

From Patricia: Will be fun!

"The Magic Spell Of Paris."

Sunday 15 April 2012

20h00 - 23h00ish

(Happy Hour. Dinner and Desser
t. David's Presentation. More Great Socializing)

Our
Guest of Honor

David Burke

Filmmaker

Longtime Paris Expat

Author of "Writer's In Paris". Creator of "Writers In Paris Walks"

Creator of the video, with wife Joanne, inspired by Woody Allen's MIDNIGHT IN PARIS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miH9U0FiesY

David Burke
took a year off , in 1986, from a successful NY career, with wife Joanne, a successful film editor, and their three sons. Well the first year was so fantastic that it turned into a second year. And went on and on. We all know the story. Many of us have experienced that. That was certainly my experience..

From David Burke - His Themes:

“My work” is about how being in Paris transformed my professional life. In New York I was a writer/producer of documentary films, working for “the suits” at CBS, NBC, and other companies. In Paris I began writing prose for publication in print for the first time – magazine articles and books. I'd written pleanty for TV, but not for the written page. I’ve continued to work in films here as well, but independently, rather than working for companies, with Joanne as the producer/director/editor and me as the writer and, on most of our films, the cameraman – thanks to the digital revolution! If digital technology hadn’t come along we could never have afforded to make our films. So that’s what I’ve been doing over these years, mainly writing and working on films. And now I am launching a new venture with “David Burke’s WRITERS IN PARIS Walks." (http://www.writersinparis.com/)

“My Personal Life” has to do largely with Joanne and the way our relationship changed here. Joanne was one of the top documentary film editors in New York, with some feature films for Sidney Lumet as well, and teaching film editing at NYU and the School for Visual Arts -- a very busy lady! – on top of which she was a mother to our three boys. It was very stressful at times for both of us, juggling all that. It was Joanne’s idea to take a year off from work and come to Paris.

“The Pleasures Of Living In Paris” is about things about this city and more broadly about living in France that appeal to me. And much more.

From Patricia: David will share. We'll ask questions and discuss too!

Address: A COOL, exotic venue with great food in the heart of the Latin Quarter!

It's €24.00 (EXACT CHANGE) for a fun gourmet dinner at our favorite, upbeat restaurant in the Latin Quarter, m° Cluny La - Sorbonne. A fun gourmet dinner and free-flowing wine. We'll confirm the address with the reservation.

"WE'RE NOT GOING TO DISCUSS THE FILM - BUT IT'S THEMES". WE'LL JUST GIVE THE SYNOPSIS!

For Expats Of All Origins. French. Visitors (All Ages).

SEX, LIES AND VIDEOTAPE (SEXE, MENSONGE ET VIDEO). REVISITED. WHAT THIS FASCINATING FILM SAYS TO US NOW. DISCUSSION.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

PLOT SUMMARY:

A beautiful, sexually repressed young woman (Andie McDowell) has decided that she does not need sex in her life. She has never experienced an orgasm. Hence, her husband (Peter Gallagher) is having a torid affair with her sister. The arrival of her husband's old college friend, Graham (James Spader) who will visit with them for a while, and who having a rather unusual fetish, changes everything. Graham likes to videotape interviews with women during while they express (talk) their sexual fantasties and desires. He is temporarily impotent, after being abandoned by a great love, and can only be aroused while watching these videos. He lives through these videos

Whenever a woman espresses herself in his videos, her life opens up. Meanwhile Graham and Anne warm up to each other

At the end of the film everybody's lfe changes.

There are themes like sex, lies, betrayal, denial, awakened passion, self-discovery, renewal and so much more. This enduring film by Steven Soderbergh (1989), winner of the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, has many compelling themes worth talking about.

"...A simmering exploration of the nature of modern relationships and the links between sexuality and voyeurism"

Whew! - Patricia

(Stars James Spader, Andie McDowell and Peter Gallagher)

A few random thoughts: (Relationship Series: Paris Sex And The City
)

"Why Do French Men...?"

Exclusivtivity - Marriage - Cohabitation

Is not the real question : "Why do men-women-humans-animals find it difficult to practice monogamy?

*** Is there a double standard? If so, can it be justified? What are 'good' explanations?

***What's cheating? What was your promise ? (express-implied) [did you mean it…probably yes. Can you keep it … probably not]

***Is overdating cheating...on your health, your partner, your family?

*** Is it best to acknowledge cheating... 'fess up' ? Best for whom ? (You did it … you handle it, guilt and all) We men/women don't need/want to know.

Our Guest of Honor:

Aslam Ansari

Filmmaker

"Road to the Diversity "

ASLAM ANSARI

Filmmaker Aslam Ansari made a short video clip (8 minutes duration) on the concept of "Cultural Diversity and Inclusion" for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) for its Annual World Forum (held in Doha, Qatar on 11-13 December 2011).

(Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) was established in 2005 as an initiative of the United Nations Secretary General, under the co-sponsorship the President of the Government of Spain and the Prime Minister of Turkey.)

The film was made in order to promote cultural diversity and inclusion in a global context. Its goal is to build and give voice to a large consistuency of people around the world who care for diversity.

Additionally, because of his years of work in the vast world of show-bizz, he has experienced more than the usual "diversity" of relationships
with men and women, in both professional and personal contexts.

It'll be thought provoking, fun and we'll learn a lot. - Patricia
