"NAUGHTY PARIS..."

Heather Stimmler-Hall will present her book. "NAUGHTY PARIS: A LADY'S GUIDE TO THE SEXY CITY "

GENTLEMEN WELCOME. FOR ALL NAUGHTY PEOPLE IN PARIS

Paris is arguably the sexiest place in the world. After all, which city brought us the Moulin Rouge, Henry Miller’s scandalous novels, and the series finale of “Sex and the City?” The source of its infamous naughtiness, however, remains hidden behind closed doors.

But these doors aren’t locked. Au contraire. The world of sexy Paris is open to anyone who knows where to look…and dares to discover.

Written for and by the fairer sex, Naughty Paris: A Lady’s Guide to the Sexy City is the first guidebook that presents the city’s erotic underside in a sophisticated yet accessible tone that appeals to both the innocently intrigued and daring divas alike. Whether you want to be titillated by erotic art or seduced at the city’s most exclusive swingers’ clubs, this guide is the key to choosing your own adventure.

Heather Stimmler-Hall is from Philadelphia and Arizona She has a traditional news journalism background and moved to France in 1995 as a student. She has been living full-time between Paris and the French Riviera since 1998 and working as a writer, editor, web mistress, and tour guide extraordinaire. Heather will have copies of her book available at a special Paris Soirees price.

Article By Jim Ounworth who uses the pen name of S. Lawrence:

What I Learned from Typhoons

When I was a young officer on my first ship after graduating from the US Naval Academy, we were deployed to the Far East as part of the initial Vietnam buildup in 1964. In fact, we were one of the ships involved in one of the Tonkin Gulf “incidents” and patrolled frequently in the South China Sea.

From time to time a typhoon would hit the area and the Navy would carry out evasion tactics. In thinking of them recently while contemplating the present financial meltdown, they seemed to be worth reviewing.

First, if we were in port, the chief port then being Subic Bay, Philippine Islands, we immediately put to sea. One of the worst things for a ship was to be trapped in rough seas in a port, moored to a dock. There was no room to maneuver and evade.

Then we tried to clear from the path of the typhoon. However, if unable to clear, we would try to stay on the outer rim of the typhoon path, running against the direction of the typhoon winds and seas. The last thing we wanted to do was to be caught sideways and rolled by the winds and seas, or be caught from behind and driven into the ocean by those same winds and seas. We had to stay in control and head into the storm.

The ship also was “battened down”, meaning everything movable was tied down. With respect to the crew, only those needed to be at watch stations to run the ship were up and everyone else could just hang on in their bunks. And that we did. I still can sense the violent movements. I can hear the bow of the ship rising up as we drove into the oncoming seas, and then smacking down with a big thud in the trough following each wave.

In sum, we cleared port, ran to try to avoid the storm, tied everything down, and hung on until the typhoon passed.

“These are the times that try men’s souls” wrote the American patriot Thomas Paine around the time of the founding of the United States. Of course, he was talking about something more serious than the worst financial meltdown, the impending revolutionary war against Great Britain. Nonetheless, the present financial crisis is a disaster and there seems to be no end in sight. The experts have no idea of what to do; the remedies so far have failed miserably; the predictions of an end have been widely inaccurate. We are in a typhoon mode.

I am proposing to clear the port (forget all the prognostications), strip down the finances to the essentials, hold tight, listen to the crashing of the wave equivalents, not flow with the debacle, and ride it out. Unfortunately, this time it will be much longer than a few days of a typhoon.

"MORE SECRETS FROM THE ASRAM"

An ashram is a place where you go to 'work' on yourself, to work hard to serve the Guru and ashram community. Yogaratna will tell you more about some of the adventures in ashram life, often humorous and highly dramatic, and give you a simple example at the end of her talk of how easy meditation can be.

Yogaratna (her sanyasin name as a renunciate) immersed herself in the rigours of a traditional ancient Indian ashram life from the Tantric lineage, where she learned the essence of Eastern mysticism from many yogis and sages. For 22 years Yogaratna has been practicing and teaching all forms of yoga, meditation, yoga therapy and Indian Spirituality throughout, mainly, South India, and also in the US, UK, Australia & New Zealand. "PARIS PILGRIMAGE TO JIM MORRISON"

Photographer Michelle Campbell, born in Los Angeles and raised in Texas, received an MFA in Photography from the University of Texas. She moved to France in 1989 to pursue various photographic projects, including photographing the grave of Jim Morrison in Peré Lachaise, where he was interred after a sudden death, characteristically surrounded by mystery, in Paris in 1971.

Michelle is currently putting together a book of photographs on Jim Morrison’s resting place. She is also photographing sacred places around France, most notably Chartres Cathedral. She recently had several photographs in the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame's (http://www.rockhall.com) exhibit on The Doors, which celebrated the 40th anniversary of "Light My Fire." Between 1989 and 1994, Michelle visited the grave and photographed each day. Now she goes back frequently, has met a lot of Jim Morrison’s friends and has captured many stories.

For Michelle, the door’s music is about Freedom. She was 17 when “Light My Fire” hit the charts at n° 1. Please visit www.thedoors.com (then click on Enter, then Jim Morrison and then His Death).

And we'll Toast Barack Obama's Victory. There'll also be The Doors music.

SUNDAY 30 NOVEMBER: THANKSGIVING DINNER. (DETAILS TO FOLLOW)

*JIM MORRISON – A LEGENDARY FIGURE. MILLIONS COME TO PARIS EACH YEAR TO TRY TO CAPTURE A MOMENT

Jim Morrison was an American poet, singer, songwriter, writer, and film director. He is best known as the lead singer and lyricist of The Doors and is widely considered to be one of the most charismatic lead singers in rock music history. He was also the author of several books of poetry and the director of a documentary and short film. Morrison was well known for his baritone voice.

There’s much more to it than that: Morrison remains one of the most popular and influential singers/writers in rock history as The Doors' catalog has become a staple of classic rock radio stations. To this day he is widely regarded as the prototypical rock star: surly, sexy, scandalous and mysterious. The leather trousers he was fond of wearing both on stage and off have since become stereotyped as rock star apparel.

For years, photographer Michelle Campbell has been photographing the scene at Jim Morrison's grave here in Paris. Since his death there in 1971 millions have come from all over the world, making his unpretentious tomb one Paris's top tourist attractions..

JIM MORRISON INFLUENCES

A fine poet and lyricist, Jim was compared to Rimbaud and influenced by:
Friedrich Nietzsche. the poetry of William Blake, Charles Baudelaire and Arthur Rimbaud. Beat Generation writers such as Jack Kerouac and French writer Céline. Céline's book, Voyage au Bout de la Nuit (Journey to the End of the Night) and Blake's Auguries of Innocence both echo through one of Morrison's early songs, "End of the Night".

Morrison's vision of
performance was colored by the works of 20th century French playwright Antonin Artaud (author of Theater and its Double) and by Julian Beck's Living Theater.

Other works relating to
religion, mysticism, ancient myth and symbolism were of lasting interest, particularly Joseph Campbell's The Hero with a Thousand Faces. James Frazer's The Golden Bough also became a source of inspiration and is reflected in the title and lyrics of the song "Not to Touch the Earth".

THE ORIGIN OF THE NAME “THE DOORS”

Jim took the band name, The Doors, from Blake's poem, « The Marriage of Heaven and Hell." Blake wrote « if the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear as it is, infinite. Jim was also influenced by Huxley's book, «The Doors of Perception », which recorded Huxley's usage and impressions of mescaline. Morrison added, « there are things known and things unknown and in between are The Doors. »
