David Burke
took a year off , in 1986, from a successful NY career, with wife Joanne, a successful film editor, and their three sons. Well the first year was so fantastic that it turned into a second year. And went on and on. We all know the story. Many of us have experienced that. That was certainly my experience..

From David Burke - His Themes:

“My work” is about how being in Paris transformed my professional life. In New York I was a writer/producer of documentary films, working for “the suits” at CBS, NBC, and other companies. In Paris I began writing prose for publication in print for the first time – magazine articles and books. I'd written pleanty for TV, but not for the written page. I’ve continued to work in films here as well, but independently, rather than working for companies, with Joanne as the producer/director/editor and me as the writer and, on most of our films, the cameraman – thanks to the digital revolution! If digital technology hadn’t come along we could never have afforded to make our films. So that’s what I’ve been doing over these years, mainly writing and working on films. And now I am launching a new venture with “David Burke’s WRITERS IN PARIS Walks." (http://www.writersinparis.com/)

“My Personal Life” has to do largely with Joanne and the way our relationship changed here. Joanne was one of the top documentary film editors in New York, with some feature films for Sidney Lumet as well, and teaching film editing at NYU and the School for Visual Arts -- a very busy lady! – on top of which she was a mother to our three boys. It was very stressful at times for both of us, juggling all that. It was Joanne’s idea to take a year off from work and come to Paris.

“The Pleasures Of Living In Paris” is about things about this city and more broadly about living in France that appeal to me. And much more.
