THIS SUNDAY 10 AUGUST Paris Soirees: Paris Expat Dinner Chez Patricia: CEZANNE: The Father Of Modern Art And Cubism. Charles Ashe. Art Collector and Expert. Paul Cezanne was a French artist and Post-Impressionist painter whose work laid the foundations of the transition from the 19th century conception of art to a new and radically different world of art in the 20th century. Cézanne can be said to form the bridge between late 19th century Impressionism and the early 20th century's Cubism. A line attributed to both Matisse and Picasso: Cézanne "is the father of us all." I attended Patricia's soiree and can attest that the food was delicious, but what knocked my socks off was getting to see a newly discovered work by Cezanne right there in the flesh. The speaker, Charles Ashe was captivating--I didn't want him to stop. My thanks to Patricia for a very memorable evening.
