Michèle Barbier was born in Algeria and came to France in 1962. She studied in France and Sweden, and while teaching in Sweden, met Josephine Baker and became her personal secretary. She became a singer, actress and wrote plays performed between 1973 and 1978 - then performed again starting in 2009.

Michèle was hired as a presenter for Circus Schreiber (Swedish) in 1974 and with Adolph Lauenburger, a German animal trainer, directed Cirque Aréna (1976- 1981). (Lauenburger created the Festival Carolingen de St Philbert de Grandlieu in 1978. She subsequently worked for France 2 with Bernard Langlois (émission Résistances).

In 1984 she created the Gala de la Press in which journalists and presenters from all fields prepared a circus show, modeled after the l'Union des Artistes and Gala des Grands Ecoles, to render a festive homage to different humanitarian causes each year, attracting viewers attention to their activities. Many important charitable organizations benefited. Michèlè has written several books and plays and received several awards. Her latest novel is "the circus" (Editions Riveneuvre), released in January 2011.

Cool Jazz Venue In The Marais - A Breath Of Fresh Air. Thank You Patricia Myers

La Cav du 38 Riv (www.38riv.com, 01.48.87.56.30) is a relative newcomer to the vibrant Paris jazz scene, opened in 2007 by Vincent Charbonnier, a jazz fan and bassist for 20 years.  This sub-sub-subterranean club (3 flights down) is in the heart of the Marais at 38 rue Rivoli (M: Hotel de Ville or St. Paul). Jam sessions start at  8:30 p.m. Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays ( free entry); concerts are scheduled on Tuesdays and Fridays (occasional variations to this schedule, closed in August, reopening Sept. 1). The jams, led by French jazz pianist Julien Cloriatt, are popular with young musicians, who last Monday demonstrated high-level creativity and proficiency. One set featured a Japanese pianist, Serbian bassist and three French  saxophonists and drummer. The cave has air-conditioning with in rows of folding chairs, on couchs in a  small side room, and an ajacent bar area with high stools and closed-circuit flat-screen TV of the action; the menu offers

She has just added two newer films -- The Artist and Midnight in Paris f rom her research of and/or interviews and encounters with Jazz Personalities. And we'll listen to a little exceptional music at the same time; Patricia willalso just talk about some songs. Most are well-known, like “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” “Pink Panther,” ”Stardust” and “Satin Doll,” and the story of how a Jewish composer wrote “White Christmas.”

TED On Michel Onfray's Book On Freud:

"Freud lied about his success with his now famous cases - later research has shown that they were not cured and some were ill for years afterwards. Sergei Pakejeff, the poor "Wolf Man", had analysis for six decades with various Freudian analysts, despite Freud's prouncement of his being "cured".

Freudwas not the great pioneer that he and his disciples claimed, he did not "discover" the unconscious (see "The Unconscious Before Freud." L.L. Whyte) nor was he the first to write about it at length, e.g. Hartmann wrote a "Philosophy of the Unconscious" when Freud was just 12. When he was original he was wrong, e.g. in the over-emphasis on sexuality, as pointed out by Jung

Freud borrowed from others but concealed his borrowings in order to satisfy his vanity; he wanted to be regarded as on a level with Copernicus and Darwin. He then established the group of loyal followers (dissenters like Jung were expelled) to propagate the myth of the great pioneer and the tradition that analysts must themselves undergo analysis according to the Freudian tenets (making them compliant believers from the beginning).

Members of the still powerful corporation guild of psychoanalysts in France have come out in full force to launch concerted attacks against Michel Onfray. Some members of this corporation have accused this brilliant subversive philosopher to be in cahoots with "neoliberalism" or "savage capitalism" of the era globalization. A preposterous accusation (Onfray is very left-wing).

BHL (Bernard Henri Levy) started his attacks against Michel Onfray in the media way before he read even one single sentence of the book. But Onfray counterattacked by brushing aside baseless attacks not grounded in the actual reading of the book.."

Ed Walters was a Casino Boss throughout the Rat Pack years. He began working in casinos at a very young age. The legendary entertainers of the Rat Pack worked with Ed at the Sands Hotel and in working with them, he got to know them well. A mutual respect grew especially between Frank Sinatra and Ed and they became friends. Ed will share his experiences about how Las Vegas got started, took off and the great, world famous, and also legendary talents that played there. He is always very honest and brutally frank and has great stories about how the Mob worked to make Las Vegas successful. Any question that you ask Ed, he will answer. "I've always sung. As far as I remember. Maybe because most of my family (Ile de la Réunion) were musicians. After studying English and Spanish, I decided to do what I've always wanted to do: get into music in a professional way ! And so I did !

Eveything in Music inspires me. It is so strongly linked to emotions ! I think this is why this is the most international language. Even when you don't get the words of a song, the music speaks to you...Music speaks to me and I really feel the need to sing and write my own songs because I like to share those emotions..If this world needs more 'real' communication, maybe music can help.

Not only is music my passion, it's also my job. And what a beautiful job ! I'm really happy to live from my passion and I wouldn't change this for anything. But what I would love to accomplish is to release my albums (I'm working on different projects, so there are many albums or EP to come) and to spread my music worldwide ! I wish I could share my music with the biggest amount of people possible ! This is why I'm working hard to make it happen ! I would be so happy if my music could create the emotions I felt listening to others... "
