Ed Walters was a Casino Boss throughout the Rat Pack years. He began working in casinos at a very young age. The legendary entertainers of the Rat Pack worked with Ed at the Sands Hotel and in working with them, he got to know them well. A mutual respect grew especially between Frank Sinatra and Ed and they became friends. Ed will share his experiences about how Las Vegas got started, took off and the great, world famous, and also legendary talents that played there. He is always very honest and brutally frank and has great stories about how the Mob worked to make Las Vegas successful. Any question that you ask Ed, he will answer. From Nelson: "Daniel Alexander Payne (1811-1893) was a teacher, poet, ecumenist, university president and bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.* After the Civil War he traveled to Europe. Of particular importance are his encounters, studies, and visits to sites in Paris. This presentation examines the Paris experience of this nineteenth century African American. Payne’s experience in the City of Light gives us a glimpse of the past and contributes to understanding the present attraction of Paris by ex-patriots as well as tourists."

Author Nelson T. Strobert is professor of Christian education. He is also director of multicultural studies at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettsburg Pensylvania.

SYNOPSIS OF JERUSALEM MAIDEN

Esther Kaminsky knows that her duty is to marry young and produce many sons to help hasten the Messiah’s arrival: that is what is expected of young ultra-Orthodox women in Jerusalem at the end of the Ottoman Empire’s rule. But - when her French teacher catches Esther's extraordinary doodling and gives her colored pencils and art lessons, Esther wonders if God has a special destiny for her: maybe she is meant to be an artist, not a mother; maybe she is meant to travel to Paris, not stay in Jerusalem.

In the coming years, as Esther sacrifices her yearning for painting and devotes herself instead to following God’s path as an obedient “Jerusalem maiden,” she suppresses her desires—until a surprising opportunity forces itself into her pre-ordained path.
