BEST-SELLING AUTHOR ROBERT ROTENBERG. ON HIS AWARD BEST-SELLING CITY HALL. ON HIS NEW THRILLER STRAY BULLETS.

For Expats Of All Origins. French. Visitors (All Ages).

Sunday 27 January 2013
19h00 - 22h30ish

Happy Hour. Robert's Presentation. Dinner and Dessert. More Great Socializing.

Our Guest Of Honor:

Robert Rotenberg
Author. Criminal Lawyer.

In The Guilty Plea and Old City Hall, critically acclaimed author Robert Rotenberg created gripping page-turners that captured audiences in Canada and around the world. Rotenberg’s bestsellers do for Toronto what Ian Rankin has done for Edinburgh and Michael Connelly for Los Angeles.

In Stray Bullets, Rotenberg takes the reader to a snowy November evening. Outside a busy downtown doughnut shop, gunshots ring out and a young boy is critically hurt. Soon Detective Ari Greene is on scene. How many shots were fired? How many guns? How many witnesses?

With grieving parents and a city hungry for justice, the pressure is on to convict the man accused of this horrible crime. Against this tidal wave of indignation, defense counsel Nancy Parish finds herself defending her oldest and most difficult client. But does anyone know the whole story?

Stray Bullets is Robert Rotenberg’s third intricate mystery set on the streets and in the courtrooms of Toronto.

ABOUT ROBERT: Robert Rotenberg works as a Canadian criminal lawyer and writer, based in Toronto. His extensive experience as a criminal defence lawyer shaped his critically acclaimed first novel, Old City Hall.

After passing the Canadian Bar, Robert travelled extensively in Europe. While in Paris in the early 1980s, he was the managing editor of English-language magazine Passion, The Magazine of Paris. When he returned to Canada, he and a partner founded and published T.O. The Magazine of Toronto, which was issued for six years until 1988.

For Expats Of All Origins. French. Visitors (All Ages).

Sunday 20 January 2013
19h00 - 22h30ish

Happy Hour. Paul's Presentation. Dinner and Dessert. More Great Socializing.

Our Guest Of Honor:

M. Paul Sinclair
Art Collector. Cultural Expert

FROM PAUL "For the African American intellectual and artistic mind, Paris has long been the center of aesthetics, beauty, and intellectual stimulation. More importantly for the African American in Paris, is the sense that you are left alone...The heart of exiled black consciousness in Paris continues to beat - the thoughts of James Baldwin, the feelings of Richard Wright, the angst of Chester Himes, and the poignancy of Ralph Ellison. "

ABOUT PAUL: M. Paul Sinclair, MBA, is a Kingston Jamaica native with a background in New York, Kingston, London, Oxford, and Paris.  Paul is an art collector, art promoter, a writer and roving blogger with special emphasis on the African American legacy in Paris since the mid 1800s.  Paul has spent over 22 years in corporate and business finance in both Europe and the United States for such companies as American Express, Honeywell, and Apple Computers, where he was a Paris-based Business Controller based for 16 countries in EMEA.  After twelve years in Paris, Paul returned to New York in 2006 where he worked as Vice President of Finance and Chief Compliance Officer for tech consultancy Volt Information Science and then for L’Oreal USA as Director Finance.

PAUL AND PARISSOIREES: Paul is an alumni and friend of Paris Soirees, where he met then newly arriving painter Ealy Mays in 1998. Paul became a collector. The two became friends, and some 15 years later, Paul has left the corporate world to pursue his passion for writing and historical documentation, and to dedicate his time to ensuring his friend Ealy Mays’ place in Paris legacy, while developing content stories on individual achievements of key African American artists, writers and intellectuals in Paris and throughout France, since the days of Alexandre Dumas.

Readers will learn about Paris’s history, buildings, and pivotal figures (monks, pirates, Crusaders, duchesses, saints, sinners, and more) through the abundant, beautiful, and surprising depictions of angels from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century. Rosemary Flannery has found angels on friezes and plaques, on fountains and facades, clocks and sundials, monuments and mansions, rooftops and doorknockers. From Editor-in-Chief-Daniel Brown:

"The idea is to write on positive, dynamic stories from the continent, mainly cultural, but also social,scientific, tech-innovative, medical and economic. Rarely overtly political. So, it could be established or up-and-coming talents from the worlds of music/film/theatrical/fashion/literature, etc; it could be a rag-to-riches story; the creation of diaspora (for November, for example, there's a special report on the take by African migrants to the US;

I think it could be a stimulating exchange between us, about... a dynamic new quality publication on the Mother Continent."

We'll hear about France. French Cooking History and current Cuisine and Restaurant Trends in Paris.

About Chef Edward Keller:

"Originally from San Francisco, I came to France in 1995 with my French wife. I was immediately won over by the French's attitude toward cooking and eating. I quickly decided to make a professional career of cooking. For the last ten years, without any formal culinary training, I have worked on the inside of the French kitchen scene. In a short time I worked my way up through several historical and prestigious Parisian restaurants: Le Grand Véfour, L'Escargot Montorgueil, Jacques Cagna, Cabaret. In search of increased client contact and greater menu creativity, I have now left the restaurant kitchens behind. I work directly with individuals in their homes to create meals and culinary events based on the values of fine dining amongst good friends."

FROM BASTIEN:

"I've always sung. As far as I remember. Maybe because most of my family (Ile de la Réunion) were musicians. After studying English and Spanish, I decided to do what I've always wanted to do: get into music in a professional way ! And so I did !

Eveything in Music inspires me. It is so strongly linked to emotions ! I think this is why this is the most international language. Even when you don't get the words of a song, the music speaks to you...Music speaks to me and I really feel the need to sing and write my own songs because I like to share those emotions..If this world needs more 'real' communication, maybe music can help.

Not only is music my passion, it's also my job. And what a beautiful job ! I'm really happy to live from my passion and I wouldn't change this for anything. But what I would love to accomplish is to release my albums (I'm working on different projects, so there are many albums or EP to come) and to spread my music worldwide ! I wish I could share my music with the biggest number of people possible ! This is why I'm working hard to make it happen ! I would be so happy if my music could create the emotions I felt listening to others... "
