"Daniel Alexander Payne"

From Nelson: "Daniel Alexander Payne (1811-1893) was a teacher, poet, ecumenist, university president and bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.* After the Civil War he traveled to Europe. Of particular importance are his encounters, studies, and visits to sites in Paris. This presentation examines the Paris experience of this nineteenth century African American. Payne’s experience in the City of Light gives us a glimpse of the past and contributes to understanding the present attraction of Paris by ex-patriots as well as tourists."

Author Nelson T. Strobert is professor of Christian education. He is also director of multicultural studies at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettsburg Pensylvania.

Our

Guest of Honor:

Talia Carner

Author

Global Human Rights Supporter

Talia Carner is formerly the publisher of Savvy Woman magazine and lecturer at international women’s economic forums. Award-winning author of three novels (most recently JERUSALEM MAIDEN, HarperCollins, 2011) and numerous stories, essays and articles, she is a committed supporter of global human rights.

SYNOPSIS OF JERUSALEM MAIDEN

Esther Kaminsky knows that her duty is to marry young and produce many sons to help hasten the Messiah’s arrival: that is what is expected of young ultra-Orthodox women in Jerusalem at the end of the Ottoman Empire’s rule. But - when her French teacher catches Esther's extraordinary doodling and gives her colored pencils and art lessons, Esther wonders if God has a special destiny for her: maybe she is meant to be an artist, not a mother; maybe she is meant to travel to Paris, not stay in Jerusalem.

In the coming years, as Esther sacrifices her yearning for painting and devotes herself instead to following God’s path as an obedient “Jerusalem maiden,” she suppresses her desires—until a surprising opportunity forces itself into her pre-ordained path. When her beliefs clash with the surging passions she has staved off her entire life, Esther must confront the hard questions: What is faith? Is there such a thing as destiny? And to whom must she be true. God or herself?

Our Guests of Honor

Ines Prisca
Jazz Vocalist

Paul Isidor Crespedes
Guitaristn. Very Talented Drummer

Vocal Jazz And World Music!

From Ines About Ines Et Paul:

"I began to study music when I was very young. When I was 10, I studied at Radio France, where I had solid musical training. I realized that I had to sing on stage. Later, I continued studying vocal jazz at the Nadia and Lili Boulanger Conservatory, where I met Paul Isidor Cespedes.with whom I decided to take my training in jazz, French and foreign vocal music to a higher level.

With Paul we are exploring a purely personal way of interpreting songs that we love. The guideline of our musical universe is travel. You could call it a travel harmonic introspective journey.

That’s why we do not hestiate to mix styles and languages.

We are in the process of developing a repertory that really seems like us. We hope to share some of our excitement with you.

On March 2 March, Paul will participate in a concert with the crd study orchestra and later in March with the group Schnapps (as aguitarist) as part of the Hard Rock Rising 2013.

I just finished a production at the Theâtre de la Jonquière in the Spectacle Histoires Anciennes and I am preparing other concerts for March with my vocal ensemble, Equinox."

Ines is of Cameroonian and Benin origin. Paul is French
