Our Special Guest Is Bassist Tom McKenzie

Tom Is Inspired By And Really Works With The Audience.

Let's enjoy the bass as a solo instrument, on her own. Jazz. Pop. Improvisations.

Says Tom:

"La Contrebasse.  La Grand-mère.  String bass.  Bass fiddle.  Double bass.  Bull bass.  Bass viol.  

She is called by many names and her function in any musical ensemble is to, "basically", lay down the groove: provide the bottom (base) of the harmony and rhythm. 

But, her melodic range is broad, and she can sing you to tears as well as make you feel that thump in your rump.  

We'll try to do those things (and more) with a few "Silly Love Songs" pour les amoureux.  

 

Tom McKenzie is originally from New York and has had an international career for 30 plus years playing in a wide variety of venues: churches, theatres, concerts, festivals, recording studios. He has also been a street musician. He has worked in the US, Europe Africa and the Caribbean.

Tom is a real pro. It'll be a pleasure to listen to him on his own.

Special Guest is Tanisha Townsend: a new Paris Expat who hails from Chicago. Great to have fresh perspectives about Paris. Tanisha is a Wine and Spirits Educator.

Paris Black History:

Tanisha is very enthusiastic about Paris and is inspired by stories of other African Americans who courageously came to Paris to live a dream. The list is long. She will share stories of people for whom being in Paris made it possible for them to make their significant statement or contribution. People such as Bricktop, Henry Ossawa Tanner, Patrick Kelly,Victor Séjour,  Dorothea Towles Church and others. Tanisha will share one or two of their stories that have particularly inspired her.
