(Happy Hour. Dinner and Desser
t. David's Presentation. More Great Socializing)

Our Guest of Honor

David Burke
Author of
"Writer's In Paris"
Filmmaker

Ernest Hemingway, a giant of 20th century American literature (a Nobel Prize winner), learned much of his skill here in Paris mingling with the Personalities of the day such as Gertrude Stein, James Joyce and Ezra Pound. Many of his books and short stories are rich in Paris references, most notably “The Sun Also Rises” and “A Moveable Feast”. He was the quintessential American expatriate of the 1920s.

Gertrude Stein came to her brother Leo's Paris atelier in 1903 where she began her lifelong passion for art and her writing career. Her writing style was deeply influenced by what the painters she admired were doing, particularly by Picasso. The experience of Picasso painting the portrait of her in 1906, signaled both the beginning of Cubism in Modern Art and and modern literature in her writing. Gertrude Stein had relationships with other writers during the 1920s: James Joyce, Ezra Pound, Sherwood Anderson and most notably, Ernest Hemingway.

About David Burke

David Burke is a writer, documentary filmmaker, and former television journalist, most notably at CBS News, on two series with Walter Cronkite, The 21st Century and Walter Cronkite Reports, and as a writer/producer on 60 Minutes, working with Dan Rather and Ed Bradley.

TO LEARN ABOUT LITERARY PARIS HISTORY: WRITERS IN PARIS, Literary Lives in the City of Light, a lively book about French and foreign writers for whom Paris, that amazing hotbed of creativity, was a key place in their lives and work Many fascinating details about the City that we all love.Experience them in David's walking tours: www.writersinpariswalkingtours.blogspot.fr

French women are not born more attractive than anyone else. They simple learn at a very young age how to feel beautiful, confident, and sexy, inside and out. It's an allure that outlasts youth--in fact, some of France's most celebrated women are femmes d'un certain age.

Growing up, Jamie Cat Callan had a French grand-mere to instruct her on style, grooming and genuinely liking her reflection in the mirror. Now she shares that wisdom, along with advice from other French women....

From Jaimie:

"I'm the author of Ooh La La!, (just released!)  Bonjour, Happiness! and

“Create The Life You Love: The Demartini Method: Family Dynamics. Relationships. Function Or Dysfunction. Your Choice.”

Our Guest of Honor

Lisa Handley
Life Facilator

How Universal Laws and the Demartini Method relate to:

Family Dynamics and Relationships. Function or Dysfunction, Your Choice

See Your Family and Relationships from a New Perspective

Sometimes we look at our families and label them as dysfunctional. But what if there was a bigger picture to our family, we just have not taken the time to see it. How would your relationships change? How much more free would you feel?

Come and hear about the order behind the apparent chaos in our families and relationships, and take away insights that will prove valuable for the future.

It sounds ‘heavy’ but it will be a fun and practical discussion

Would you love to:

  • Understand the dynamics of your family of origin, and current relationships
  • Appreciate your partners, children, parents and all those people who currently drive you crazy
  • Understand why certain events may have occurred in your family
  • Have a greater appreciation for your current relationships
  • Have a greater appreciation for yourself

The evening presentation will be by Lisa Handley. Lisa loves to help people see events in their lives from a new perspective using the Demartini Method, a process so effective that what once took weeks, months or even years to heal and change, can be achieved in a matter of hours.

Lisa was one of Dr Demartini’s first facilitators in Australia in 1996 and is one of the relatively few people in the world certified to teach his signature program, The Breakthrough Experience.

Dr John Demartini says of Lisa:
I have seen her tackle senior executives with firmness, as well as young teenagers with gentle gloves. She has persevered in her studies and cares about her work. I hope you are blessed to be able to see her work in action.

ANOTHER QUOTE:

I have seen Anthony Robbins (done the fire walk), Deepak Chopra, Stuart Wilde, Wayne Dyer, Michael Rowland (three courses), read approximately 80 books over eight years, all in aid of ‘fixing’ myself and all of them together have not come close to working with Lisa.

Dream Chasers: "Maybe Dreams Can Come True"

Sunday 15 September 2013
19h00 - 22h30ish

Happy Hour. Dinner and Desser
t. Electra's Presentation. More Great Socializing

Our Guest of Honor:

Electra Weston
International Singer, Dancer, Actress, Filmmaker

More From Electra:

Dream Chasers: “Maybe Dreams Come True”.

Over six years ago I began an independent film project inspired by gifted filmmaker Joshua Bee Alafia. The journey began with a few simple words, “Hey Love, Let’s Make a Film.” As an actor, I had appeared in character roles for both film and television, but I never imagined myself behind the camera. Filmmaking is an extremely expensive field that I could not imagine conquering. I remember asking a DP on a film set what it really took to make a film, and he said, “Electra, it takes unyielding desire and passion to tell a story.” My adventure was both challenging and exhilarating. I poured my heart and finances into telling a story that travels through Harlem, New York; Hamburg, Germany; and Paris, France.

The Plot

"Maybe Dreams Come True” is loosely based on events in my life. It is strange and ironic to write these words, but I was at one time considered an expatriate. My history gave me the desire to expose the realities of living away from one's country and culture. The main character in the film (Chocolat) is a young woman torn between nurturing her love relationship in America, while continuing to explore a booming entertainment career in Europe. Chocolat is determined to build a transcontinental bridge to maintain both love and career.

The plot evolves into a documentary medium. Chocolat uses a small video camera as a tool to explore and question her life through. interviewing others. Her questions include, why are her friends abroad? Do they intend to return to their native countries? We discover some of the common elements that drew them from their homes: economics, political climates, sexual freedom, and much more.

Why 6 Years To Complete the Film?

The answer is in the title, “Maybe Dreams Can Come True.” Artists have a natural longing to express their talent, even simply for themselves privately. But life can bring detours and doubts to a very focused dream. Simple tasks such as eating, paying rent, and supporting family, can become huge obstacles when you merely thirst for creativity. “We all want to make a place in this world, we all want our voices to be heard."

Recently, while standing in line in a Harlem supermarket, I had an epiphany while talking to a customer from Jamaica. During our discussion, he asked me, “What is your film about?” I responded that it was primarily about people like himself. Individuals who have chosen to live away from their country and culture. He stated, “Oh, dream chasers."

His latest disc, The Second Half of the Bet (Hope Again), moves organically through folk, jazz, rock and world influences, while retaining the strong personality of what Jason calls “groovy acoustic soul.” His essays and poetry have been published in the anthologies The Black Body and Voices from Leimert Park

“He uses his guitar as an accompaniment to his stellar, expressive voice as well as his intriguing love songs and mesmerizing essays…. He’s a little Sam Cooke, a little Lenny Kravitz, and a little Neil Young.” – Music Connections

“Luckett is a charismatic, romantic poet who wields lyrical dexterity in his heartbreaking yet inspirational narratives.” – HITS Magazine

A Native of Orange County (California), Jason Luckett’s soothing voice and intricate guitar chord progressions make for a lovely sunny day — regardless of the actual weather! Check out his video Moment in the Sun".
