"MULTIVITAMINE: 10 COLLECTION. ART FOR A HAPPIER, SEXIER, MORE ORGASMIC LIFE. "

Sunday 21 November 2010

19h15 - 23h00ish

Happy Hour Evan's Presentation. Dinner and Dessert. More Great Socializing.

Our Guest of Honor

Evan Nabrit

Artist

Evan Washington Clarke Nabrit (b 1982) is a young and striking, classically trained fine artist, and critical intellectual from Columbus OH. There is something about Evan that you like right right away. Perhaps his genuine sincerity. And his niceness. His current work explores issues of political identity and culture, in contemporary American society. He’s delightful. He was homeschooled from 1991-2000. He finished Cum Laude at Amherst College, in 2006.

Evan has had significant residences and fellowships.(The list is very long and includes Japan - and a lot recently). He has had recent group shows in Manhattan. His solo exhibitions include the 'Intergraded', a collection of contemporary multimedia and video work, at Eli Marsh (2005); and the traditionalist, 'Essence of Women' collection of 17 painted oil-on-canvas nudes, at the KIACA gallery space in the short north arts district of Columbus, Oh (2007-08).

This Sunday, Evan will share works excerpted from his, "Multivitamin: '10 Collection", and talk, basically about: "Learning Through Art How To Have A Happier, Sexier And More Orgasmic Life In This High Comsumption Info, Media Era World"

("Art as Dietary Supplement: Offsetting Hazardous Effects of a High-Consumption Info-Media Diet, in a High-Consumption, Info-Media era.")

Sunday 18 April 2010

19h00 - 22h30ish

(Happy Hour. George's Presentation. Dinner and Dessert. More Great Socializing.)

Our Guest Of Honor

GEORGES VAL

Artist. Diplomat

Georges Val lived in Nigeria for 13 years where, in addition to being an artist, he was a member of the Board of the Nigerian Museum Society. He travelled across the country under the sponsorship of Nigerian Museums. His large dimension paintings, hand lacquered, show the flamboyant African ceremonies and and festivals that he visited.

Nigeria has 150 million inhabitants, and is the most populated country in Africa. (1 African in 5 is Nigerian). In Nigeria, there are 250 different ethnic groups and languages. Within the same culture, there are Animalists, Christians and Moslems. It's a rich cultural mosaic.

Nigerian Museums as well as the British press consider George's work to be unique. His first exhibition in London was featured on the front page of "West Africa", West Africa's largest English language magazine. He has had exhibitions at UNESCO and his work often figures in the press about Nigeria.

Many Afircan-Americans like myself, have roots in Nigeria. I once saw a video of an inauguration ceremony involving the family of a friend, a Nigerian Princess, which I found spellbinding. It will be fascinating to learn more about that culture!

Surprise music!

SUNDAY 28 FEBRUARY 2010

19h00 - 22h30ish

Happy Hour. Monique's Presentation. Dinner & Dessert. More Great
Social
izing.

Our Guest of Honor:
Monique Wells Co-
Founder Of "Discover Paris"
Longtime Paris Expat

Monique Y. Wells will present the life and art of Beauford Delaney, an extraordinary painter who was part of the post-WWII African-American expatriate presence in Paris. His works are becoming recognized as some of the best that 20th-century American artists have produced, particularly because of his use of color in the abstract expressionist paintings of his Paris years. Some of his closest friends here included writers James Baldwin and Richard Gibson, and artist Ed Clark. He crossed paths with some of the most famous African-American expats of the era, including Richard Wright and Chester Himes.

Delaney did not want his paintings to be categorized as black art, or even as American art. He died in Paris in 1979 and is buried in Thiais Cemetery in an unmarked grave. Monique is president of Les Amis de Beauford Delaney, a non-profit group that seeks to honor him.
