SAYS AUDREY EDWARDS:
"I'd like to discuss why for me leaving America was imperative after
Trump became President.
Some people thought I was" punking out" by leaving. Some thought I was
showing courage. The point is, making the decision to leave one's
native land is never easy and is always transformative.
But I knew that the America I was born into would no longer feel safe
under Trump because his political leadership would be hostile at worst
(or indifferent at best) to my aspirations as a black and a woman: as a
mother of a black son and a grandmother to four black girls, as a
journalist who has always reported from the blurred lines of race and
gender."
