Actor-singer Claudia Hommel is a favorite wherever she performs -- from the Frick Museum in Pittsburgh, the Metropolis Performing Arts Center in Illinois, the Musée de Montmartre, and Paris Soirees. A few years ago, Claudia brought us the Jazz Fauré Project ensemble as they made their Paris début at La Halle St. Pierre. In prior visits she has improvised with Dennis Shafer and regaled us with French chansons. Her entourage this year will include fans and fellow travelers from the US, especially Chicago.
French impressionism meets American jazz: songs of 19th century French composer Gabriel Fauré are arranged for 21st century jazz combo and vocals, and why not? The music is full of color and light and fleeting spontaneous gestures. Romance, cynicism, ardour and dreams.
