Set in the 1940's and 50's , Saving Myself: A Los Angeles Childhood evokes the wonder and terror of the Simonoff family in a small section of Los Angeles. It is told from the viewpoint of a young girl trying to understand the early loss of her Mother as well as an abandonment by her friends because she is Jewish. The memoir comes full swing in a journey toward spiritual wholeness, expressing the universal wish for a sense of belonging.
"Poignant, charming, brimming over with observation, vitality and the will to survive." Kathleen Spivack, Poet, Pulitzer Prize nominee.
JEANNE SIMONOFF grew up in Los Angeles where she worked as a counselor in private practice for her firm, Simonofff and Associates. She has published 13, a book of poetry. Her work has appeared in various journals and anthologies. She currently lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
