Kathleen Spivack is the author of six books: prose and poetry ( Doubleday; Graywolf, etc.) and has won numerous prizes and recognition for her literary work. Her work appears in the The New Yorker; Atlantic Monthly; The Paris Review and so forth --
as well as in scads of little mags you've never heard of!
Kathleen teaches in the US; in Paris; in the French University system, where she has worked since 1990. Her travel essays appear regularly in the Best Travel Writing series; and Best Travel Writing by Women. This year she won two Solas Awards for her travel writing; as well as an International Grand Prix for Best Travel Essay 2009.(Destination: The best story about a place that captures its essence and reveals its attractions, making the reader want to go there.) Known mostly for her writing in the field of belles lettres, Kathleen also taught Travel Writing for several years for the Holland America Line; specifically on the lovely cruise ship,the old "Rotterdam." (One of the many interesting writing/teaching gigs that enabled her to see a bit of the world.).Her son, Nova Spivack says of Kathleen on the occasion of the publication of her sixth book: My mother taught me how to write.
