From "Writers In Paris" - Excerpts www.writersinparis.com

Colette A Paris: In Claudine à Paris, published in 1901, the seventeen-year-old heroine, whose father has dragged her away from their village in Burgundy starts to take a look at the city: "I can't conceive why people live in Paris for their pleasure, without being forced to do so; no, but I'm beginning to understand that you can take an interest in what happens in these big six-story boxes."

Oscar Wilde: Wild's Last Days. "I am dyng beyond my means," Oscar Wilde famously quipped as he lay on his deathbed. And it was perfectly true. Dirt cheap though the Hôtel d'Alsace was, if it hadn't been for the soft heart of the owner, Wilde would have been evicted for nonpayment.. About the the deadful wallpaper in the hotel room he said, "One of us has to go." He went at fourty-six, on November 30, 1900.

George Sand:: George Sand At Her Mansarde Bleue.. The four years George Sand lived in her "mansarde bleue," the top-floor apartment above the treetops were among the wildest years in a life rarely lacking for excitement. During the first few months of 1833, she signed a cntract for her new novel Lélia, became romantically involved with actress Marie Dorval, ended her affair with Jules Sandeau, and had a diasstous fling with Prosper Mèrimée. On June 19 she met Alfred de Musset, and six weeks later began her celebrated affair with the boy wonder of romantic poetry. At twenty-one, he was seven years Sand's junior, as was the discarded Sandeau.

"TREASURE OF SAINT-LAZARE"

An int'l thriller set in Paris. A priceless Raphael self-portrait never recovered along with crates of Nazi gold bullion. Vivid Descriptions of Paris.

Sunday 9 Sept 2012
19h00 - 22h30ish

Happy Hour. John's Presentation. Dinner and Dessert. More Great Socializing.

Our Guest Of Honor:

John Pearce
Author

Eddie Grant was once a happy man. He was rich and respected, he had a beautiful wife and a handsome young son, and he was an American in Paris. But his happiness ended brutally in the very bad year of 2001, when his wife and son were murdered and his father died mysteriously in an auto crash. Since then nothing has gone right
.

Until 2008, when a cryptic letter from his father’s World War II colleague in Army intelligence pulls him reluctantly into a web of intrigue and death and gives him a slim chance to solve the murders. It also launches him on a dangerous search for the most valuable piece of Nazi loot that remains missing, a famous Raphael self-portrait and crates of Nazi gold bullion that accompanied it.

ABOUT JOHN PEARCE:

John was an AP reporter early in his career, first covering the civil rights movement in Jackson, Miss., and then economics and finance in Washington. He and his wife Jan (who was a Washington Post reporter when we met) moved to Germany, where they wrote on business and finance in the German-speaking world for the IHT.They later went in business, eventually sold their business in Sarasota, FL, and retired a bit early. They spend two months or so in Paris each year where John does research for a series of novels.

From Patricia: For lovers of Paris, a dream of a novel.

Address: A COOL, exotic venue with great food in the heart of the Latin Quarter!

It's €24.00 (EXACT CHANGE) for a fun gourmet dinner at one of our favorite, upbeat restaurants in the Latin Quarter, m° Cluny La - Sorbonne. Free-flowing wine. We'll confirm the address with the reservation.

Our Guest of Honor

Author, Writer - Visionary, Change Agent, And Very Effective Communicator

Roy Camblin's Vision is so large! And his knowledge broad and deep! A good way to start seeing what he sees is by looking at the list of topics on www.rootcausemovement.com. Open one topic, start reading. And you can't stop. The narrow list of four topics that I chose to get started with are, for example:

"When and where did things go wrong?"

"Where do we put the blame for this mess?"

"Who is going to fix it?"

"What do we do about it?"

Roy's upbeat to read. Not a boring sentence. Somehow thrilling. Although the subject is indeed serious, bordering on being frightening.

Nelson Strobert
Writer, Theologist

Our friend Kesiena was live on French TV recently with his new single: "Love Is All I Have" (Plateau France 2 Vivement Dimanche 22 Avril 2012. He was great and held his own when chatting with TV greats. He looked really tall, slim and sexy. Michel Drucker was on the plateau and it was one of the last appearances of the late French legend and Vivement Dimanche host, Eric Charden. Kes's great collaborator and friend, Gunnar Ellwanger was there too on one of the guitars: See the live performance on:

Kesesina has recently completed an album to be released next Fall
Our old friend, writer, Nelson Stobert is in Paris this summer completing research on the travels of Daniel Alexander Payne in Paris: what he saw and how he was received. "In fact, my time here this time was photograhing the sights he mentioned in his autobiography as well as looking at representative buildings that he would have seen while here. I have found it intriguing and fun to follow his trip here." (Payne was a Bishop and the first African American President of a US College - Wilberforce College.)

Nelson will speak more fully on Payne and his forthcoming book about Payne at a later date. This Sunday is a brief intro.

Janet Hulstrand
Writer and Expert On Champagne

Janet Hulstrand first discovered the sothernmost part of Champagne when she picked grapes there in the vendange more than 30 years ago. In the years since she has been drawn back over and over again, and eventually bought a home there, in the village of Essoyes (ESS-wah), where both Pierre Auguste Renoir (the painter) and his filmmaker
son Jean spent some of their happiest years.

Janet is a writer, editor and teacher who teaches "Paris: A Literary Adventure" to CUNY undergraduates each summer in Paris, and offers one-week "Writing from the Heart" workshop/retreats in Champagne each spring and fall. Let's discover this relatively unknown part of Champagne - less than two hours from Paris. And drink champagne!

Michèle Barbier was born in Algeria and came to France in 1962. She studied in France and Sweden, and while teaching in Sweden, met Josephine Baker and became her personal secretary. She became a singer, actress and wrote plays performed between 1973 and 1978 - then performed again starting in 2009.

La Cav du 38 Riv (www.38riv.com, 01.48.87.56.30) is a relative newcomer to the vibrant Paris jazz scene, opened in 2007 by Vincent Charbonnier, a jazz fan and bassist for 20 years.  This sub-sub-subterranean club (3 flights down) is in the heart of the Marais at 38 rue Rivoli (M: Hotel de Ville or St. Paul). Jam sessions start at  8:30 p.m. Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays ( free entry); concerts are scheduled on Tuesdays and Fridays (occasional variations to this schedule, closed in August, reopening Sept. 1). The jams, led by French jazz pianist Julien Cloriatt, are popular with young musicians, who last Monday demonstrated high-level creativity and proficiency. One set featured a Japanese pianist, Serbian bassist and three French  saxophonists and drummer. The cave has air-conditioning with in rows of folding chairs, on couchs in a  small side room, and an ajacent bar area with high stools and closed-circuit flat-screen TV of the action; the menu offers
