RENDEZ VOUS CHEZ PATRICIAThis Sunday 30 September At 18h30 - * Patricia's Birthday Celebration!Visit Patricia's website -
http://www.parissoirees.com

Our Guest of Honor:
Leonard Pitt Author
"Walks Through Lost Paris: A Journey Into the Heart Of Historic Paris."

Lost Paris: Between 1853 and 1870, Hundreds Of Streets disappeared in Paris. Nearly 20,000 buildings were demolished and 45,000 buildings constructed in their place. Much of the city's history was lost as Medieval and Renaissance quarters crumbled.

When Leonard Pitt discovered that the Parisian neighborhood in which he once lived was entirely rebuilt during this period, he plunged headfirst into archives to try to reconstruct the city that was demolished.

Walking through neighborhoods with 19th-century maps and photos in hand, he searched for lost places Leonard Pitt left a career in advertising in 1963 to study mime in Paris with Etienne Decroux. In 1970, he returned to the U.S. and directed a school of physical theater for eighteen years, attracting students from around the world. He has performed and taught throughout the U.S., Europe, and Asia. He lives in Berkeley, California. Visit:
www.leonardpitt.com
*From Patricia: I am especially pleased that Leonard will speak for my Birthday celebration as the history of Paris is one of my favorite subjects and one of the approaches that I use most to understand living in Paris as an Expat. Leonard will also speak at Sun 14 October's dinner on another new book - not about Paris and in an entirely different vein: "A Small Moment Of Great Illumination : Searching for Valentine Greatrakes, the Master Healer. " (Patricia's actual birthday is 1 October)

Our Guest of Honor:

Earl Ferguson
Motion Fitness Coach (Physical, Mental and Spiritual Fitness)

"Feeling Your Best: Using Chinese Medicine Techniques " (Some Simple Tips. )

I've talked with Earl Ferguson about Chinese Traditional Medicine and ways to apply it to my daily life. He showed me some simple techniques that, right away, increased my energy and, IMPORTANTLY, relieved stress and anxiety. I asked Earl to briefly share some thoughts (and techniques) and the philosophy behind them, in a simple way, that will help us all to work towards feeling better and enjoying life more.

Earl Ferguson, an Afro-American from New York City, has been a gymnastics and motion fitness coach for more than 27 years. He has lived in Paris for 25 years and has been featured in such publications as VSD, Vital, Karaté, Paris Match and Liaison Social. In so doing, we develop and foster our capacity to become more receptive to the life surrounding us. Earl is an avid student of Chinese Traditional Medicine. To contact Earl Ferguson: Tel: 06 88 84 96 39

It doesn't matter who you are or of what origin you are. You're either French (in your head and behavior), or not. When I began to see that, I began to identify myself as an expat. Our Guest of Honor:

Patricia Myers
International Jazz Critic And Photo-Journalist

Celebrating Four Great Ladies of Jazz: Dinah Washington, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughn

Patricia Myers will speak on "Celebrating Four Great Ladies of Jazz," telling intriguing anecdotes from her research and/or interviews of Dinah Washington, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan
. The humorous and touching stories show how the singers overcame adversity, turning trials into triumphs.

For example: how 15-year-old Billie Holiday got her first singing job; the real story behind "A- Tisket A-Tasket"; and how many times Sarah had to win amateur competitions before she was hired for her first gig. The stories will be accopanied by excerpted CD music by the four.

RENDEZ-VOUS CHEZ PATRICIA

Our Guest of Honor:

Linda Quinet
World Traveller. Web Site And Marketing Conception

"India: Surviving The Monsoon." (A Photo Exposé)

From Linda Quinet: "Two excellent reasons not to go to India in July are: heat and monsoon.

But when fate says, "Either go in July or don't go," go. Linda did. A volunteer opportunity was the reason; her Paris apartment was rented the entire month, providing plane fare.

A little research and voilà—the solution: Hill stations in the north.

The British recognized their value as a respite from life-threatening heat and humidity when they developed Shimla into a summer home for the government in the late 1800s. Think "Jewel in the Crown" about the British Raj starting to think that "their" time in India was coming to an end. For those like Linda just beginning as an India-phile, Shimla and other hill stations are relatively easy to get to, tourist friendly, and temperaturely correct in July. Once there, local sights are accessible on foot, albeit uphill all the way. Beggars are infrequent and/or far less tenacious than in southern cities. Fewer holy cows wander about, but watch out for the monkeys.

While in northern India, one might as well take in the Taj Mahal, the Ganges and ghats. The nonprofit project was 200 kms west of Kolkata/Calcutta. " Contact Linda on
